Examination with bone scintigraphy

You would like to be examined by bone scintigraphy bones / joints / musculoskeletal system? Learn more about bone scintigraphy, when it's being used, and what the healing process is like.

Use of bone scintigraphy

The bone metabolism can be disturbed both in benign (eg rheumatism) and in malignant diseases (eg bone cancer). To examine the bone metabolism, a weakly radioactive substance, which accumulates in particular on the bone surface, is injected into a vein of the arm. If it is a possible inflammation (eg rheumatism, postoperative inflammation after joint replacement), you will be given the syringe while lying under or in front of a camera or sitting. Thus, acute inflammation can be recognized by increased blood flow. In addition, a recording of the body is carried out after about 5 min from the front and back to assess the accumulation of the radioactive substance in the soft tissues. Regardless, 2-4 hours after the injection, full-body shots are taken from the front and back. Thus, all bones of your skeletal system can be assessed.
