PET/CT

PET/CT

Sequence of the PET / CT examination

The examination is similar to a normal scintigraphy with a previous injection into a vein. Subsequently, images of different body sections with a special camera, the so-called PET scanner, a kind of open tube, made. Depending on the clinical question and the body sections to be examined as well as the radioactive medicine used, the duration of the examination is approx. 1-2 h.

The PET / CT

On the one hand, PET (positron emission tomography) is used to visualize the tumor metabolism with Ga-68-PSMA ("prostate-specific membrane antigen"), on the other CT (computed tomography, here as "low-dose CT"). ) to the spatial localization. The combination of both methods in one study allows an exact localization of malignant tumors, as it is not possible with other methods. Thus, primary tumor and possible metastases can be detected and at the same time the possibility of a therapy with radiolabelled Y-90 or Lu-177-PSMA can be estimated (so-called "Theranostics" concept).

The treatment

For planning and preparation for a PET examination, a detailed discussion with the participating physicians is absolutely necessary, please bring documents for preliminary examinations mit.Wichtig is also the sobriety for 12 h before the examination. Please ask in advance, if necessary, medication must be paused.
