Myokardszintigraphie

Both examinations consist of two parts: a resting and a load examination. Myocardial scintigraphy first determines the perfusion of the heart muscle under stress (exercise ECG). The physical stress is usually on a bicycle, but can also be imitated by a drug in certain pre-existing conditions. Shortly before the end of the exercise, you will be injected with a low-level radioactive substance whose distribution in the heart reflects the blood flow during exercise.

The first image taken at the gamma camera to measure exercise flow is generally one hour after the end of exercise. During the time between stress ECG and camera recording, you should have a meal. You can also take your medication if necessary. The camera moves without contact around your upper body, the recording takes about 20 minutes. Thereafter, the check-up takes place, either on the same day or a few days later. After the second shot at the gamma camera, the examination is usually completed. However, additional recordings may be required in individual cases. The sequence of stress and rest examination may vary occasionally, depending on the examination capacities

In radionuclide ventriculography, a saline solution is first injected to prepare. About 20 minutes later, the injection of a weak radioactive substance takes place. With the substance we mark the red blood cells, so that we can see with the gamma camera, as with each heartbeat the blood is ejected from the heart chambers. The measurement is performed initially at rest and then under load. Both examinations usually require a load. In any case, you are under constant ECG monitoring.

If a myocardial scintigraphy is to be performed on you, please come to the agreed examination date on a sober basis. However, it is important that you drink well before the stress test (no coffee, black tea or cola). On the eve of the examination, you can eat normally. Bring something to eat (high-fat casserole, chocolate, etc.). Please schedule the morning for the examination.
